ITINERARIES
The UK and Ireland both have so much to offer, whatever your interest and Pegasus Travel Services has the expertise to turn your plans and ideas into reality with a customised itinerary.
You might just want a leisurely tour visiting the 'sights' - places whose names are known throughout the
world - London, Bath, Stonehenge, Edinburgh, York, the Lake District, Stratford upon Avon, Oxford - or you might prefer something more 'in-depth', themed to your particular interest.
Pegasus Travel Services has wide experience in compiling special interest itineraries for subjects as diverse as Gardens & Horticulture, English Literature, TV Locations, 'Harry Potter', Historic Homes & Castles, and covering all areas of the British Isles and Ireland.
GARDEN TOURS
Every area of the British Isles has something to offer both the experienced horticulturalist and the keen amateur. Travel to Kent - 'The Garden of England' and visit Great Dixter, Sissinghurst Castle, Great Comp, or to Cornwall and to the Eden Project, Trelissick and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Scotland and Wales both feature national botanic gardens whilst Ireland boasts magnificent Powerscourt and the lovely Japanese Gardens which are located on the estate of the National Stud in County Kildare.
LITERARY TOURS
No literary tour would be complete without a visit to Stratford upon Avon and to the
home of England's greatest playwright, William Shakespeare. But, why not also explore
Jane Austen's home county of Hampshire where you can visit the
house in Chawton where she spent the last 8 years of her life, and Winchester
Cathedral where she is buried. You could also include a trip north to Yorkshire
to visit the parsonage in the village of Haworth where the world's most famous literary family - the Bronte's - lived for over 40 years and wrote such classics as 'Jane Eyre'
and 'Wuthering Heights'. The beautiful county of Dorset was home to Thomas Hardy and the setting for his classic novels such as 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' and 'The Mayor of Casterbridge'.
And children's favourite, Beatrix Potter, made her home at Hilltop
Farm in the stunning countryside of the Lake District, perhaps the
most beautiful region in the country, as seen in the recent film of her
life, 'Miss Potter', starring Renee Zellweger.
HISTORIC HOMES & CASTLES
Britain's history can be re-visited through the many castles that litter the countryside -
from the Castle of Mey in the far north of Scotland, the border fortifications of
Alnwick Castle in Northumberland and Carlisle Castle in Cumbria, to the string of
castles built by Edward I during his fortification of Wales - Harlech, Caernarvon,
Conwy and Beaumaris - to Windsor Castle just a few miles west of London, the
largest inhabited castle in the world and favourite home of Queen Elizabeth II.
Many of the beautiful stately homes, such as Blenheim Palace in
Oxfordshire and Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, have been occupied by
the same family for hundreds of years. Others - such as Tyntesfield in Somerset
and Petworth in Sussex - have been taken over by The National Trust and
restored to their former glory.
